Rescue Me ID: 17-10-30-00255Gizmo (male)

Norwegian Forest Cat    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Cats, Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Abused/Neglected

Gizmo has been abandoned by his owners and was found wondering in a veld near a shopping center where I feed feral cats. I was shocked to find him skin and bone at the time, mattered in black jack because of his long fur where they were digging into his skin causing him so much pain. He was full of ticks and fleas and I could tell he was a cat that had been lost for a long time. Despite all this he is in my experience no doubt the most loving cat I've ever handled. I have 9 cats and do lots of rescue work and doubt I have ever held a more loving cat than Gizmo. He is gentle, relaxed and amazing with people of all sizes. He was neutered ... (Read More)when I found him and also microchipped. After contacting his owners which took them 2 days to collect (it was a struggle to get them to come and fetch him) and after learning he had been missing for six months and they lived probably 1 km from where I found him I saw the warning signs that they did not care about him. They had recently over the last four years had 3 children, one been a new born which obviously the reason for the neglect. When I handed him over I whispered in his ear and told him that he knew where to find me if he was unhappy. Six weeks later I got a sms to say his missing again and low and behold I found him. They did not even try look for him. I gave all the signals to their owners that he was still alive and he had been found but they did not respond to my many whattsapp messages or calls. Sadly it seems they are not interested which baffles me as he is such a gorgeous cat and seems so loyal and just wants a family for himself. Gizmo has been with me for 4 weeks now and has not even tried to run away. He is a lap cat of note and all he is asking for a person who can love him as much as the love he has to give. A safe home with a garden and preferably an only animal household. The reason for this is with Gizmo been out in the wild for six months he had to learn to survive amongst all the elements including wild feral cats. So he is fearful to other cats and with me owning 9 cats I can not keep him. That special person must have the patience and show him that he is going to be loved and has a forever home. A family that is okay for him to sleep on their bed and be with the family all the time as he does no like to be locked up on his own. I am happy to send you videos of his personality and more photos. Or even better you welcome to come alnd meet hime. The photo attached is when I first found him and he was skin and bone. Since then he has doubled in size and is a very large beautiful cat and has been refereed to by my vet as a Norwegian Forrester breed. (Less)
